How does ADAS help drivers drive safely？

1. The background of developing and using ADAS

How to reduce the number of road traffic accidents is one of the main social problems in the world today. According to the World Health Organization, 1.2 million people die and as many as 50 million are injured in road accidents worldwide each year.

With the development of science and technology, vehicles can be equipped with many advanced safety solutions to improve safe operation. Passive safety components such as airbags and seat belts are traditional standard equipment. New vehicles need to be equipped with Advanced Driving Assistance Systems (ADAS) to prevent or reduce accidents.

Many accidents could have been avoided if Advanced Driving Assistance Systems (ADAS) had been used to help drivers, and ADAS 'capabilities are increasing as technology evolves.

2. The concept of ADAS

Advanced Driving Assistance Systems (ADAS) is based on ultra-high lens quality and excellent algorithm, it could reduce the possibility of rear-end collision and other accidents by real-time monitoring of vehicle driving state and intelligent warning of potential dangers in advance.

Advanced Driving Assistance Systems (ADAS) mainly collects environmental data inside and outside the vehicle through various onboard sensors and performs technical processing such as identification, detection and tracking of static and dynamic objects, so that drivers can detect the possible dangers in the fastest time and take corresponding measures to improve the driving safety.

3. The functionality of ADAS

At present, the Advanced Driving Assistance Systems (ADAS) promoted and applied in China mainly include: Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Safe Distance Warning (SDW), Forward Collision Warning (FCW), Pedestrian Collision Warning (PCW), etc.

For now, China government is pushing the mandatory installation of driver video monitoring and warning equipment for large vehicles like bus/coach/oil tanker and other dangerous chemicals transport vehicles, because it can effectively reduce the traffic accident rate and keep the driving safer and intelligent.

The working theory of the whole system

The ADAS camera & DSM camera are integrated with MDVR with a built-in AI algorithm together. The ADAS camera supports safe distance warning / lane departure warning / forward collision warning / pedestrian collision warning, suitable for the road ahead monitoring; the DSM camera analyzes the fatigue state and the distracted state in real-time by recognizing facial expression features and promptly alerts the driver. The core technology comes from independent research and development, with an international level of visual recognition algorithm engine, which is accurate and reliable.

When the ADAS camera detects the potential collision risk with the vehicle front, the vehicle distance is too close or the unconscious lane deviation or there is pedestrian, the system will remind the driver to take timely measures through the warning tone.

When the ADAS warning event is triggered, the warning information is transmitted to the Intelligent Vehicle Monitoring management System platform (IVMS). Through the collected warning data of the driver and making in-depth driving behaviour analysis, it reduces the traffic accident rate, improves the operational efficiency.
